Five Guiding Assumptions of Co-Intelligence (Legacy Series Part 1)
Dear friends,
Both my aging (I’m 79 now) and the rapid changes we see in our world have inspired my close colleagues and me to attend to the legacy of our co-intelligence and wise democracy work. There are many dimensions to this, which I’ll talk about in other posts in this series. But the fact that my attention has been on legacy on an ongoing basis for months may explain why I woke up this morning with the “five guiding assumptions” below bubbling into my head. I got out of bed to get them down in draft form and then reworked them, with insightful help from Claude.ai.
More can be said about each of these guiding assumptions, but I decided (for once) to not try to say it all, but to offer short commentaries that link them to our lives with implicit depths that could be explored by any person or group who felt inspired to do so. (Let me know if you’d like to be part of a conversation or course about them.)
May you find them interesting and useful in glimpsing the evolving worldview of what we call “co-intelligence”, and perhaps in discovering and engaging with what these principles may offer you personally. Indeed, even though I wrote these, I’m still very much working on living them in my own life….
Coheartedly,
Tom

Five Guiding Assumptions of Co-Intelligence
1. There’s always more to it.
We can always see, understand, or do more – about whatever we’re seeing, learning or doing now. And beyond that adventure lives a great Mystery that can wisely inspire our awareness and humility.
2. It all fits and unfolds.
We can delve into the coherent logic and/or beauty of What Is – and then it changes. Technically, we call this wonder-full process “evolving wholeness” – and we are all part of that.
3. Life is alive with concerns and contributions.
We can welcome aliveness in everything. And then we can appreciate and call on the caring energy alive in every concern and contribution.
4. We’re all in this together.
We can realize the deep and abiding kinship of all beings in this miracle of existence, fitting and unfolding together within the vast metabolism of life on Earth.
5. Wonder is a natural response to these realizations.
Wonder can manifest both in wiser reflections about life and also simply as a profound, joyful awe in the face of it all. Both forms of wonder open our intelligences with the intelligences of the world into new landscapes of being and possibility dancing along the curved horizon of “always more to it”….
